Eryn Vorn (mane painting, all this stuff eeee)

Okay, I got a CS4 trial a few days ago, and I've been playing around with new techniques and stuff. I came up with this simple little header thingy for one of my characters:

I have an alternate version HERE, though the only difference is that there's no border, the text is a little lower and there aren't any brushes in the background. That's made specifically for her table coding, so yeah. :3

I was just wondering what you guys thought of it? I had to clone out an itty bitty halter, paint in the mane/forelock, and paint in the eye, as well as lighten the horse a bit. The original can be seen HERE. If you guys have tips, critique, or just an opinion on this, I'd really appreciate it, seeing as I'm getting Photoshop CS for Christmas this year and I want to improve my technique, as far as manips go.

The mane is absolutely gorgeous! Its lovely and thick but the lines are not hard as some painted ones are, and therefore there's some nice realism. I'd apply the same principle to the forelock though, lengthen the hairs and such. Beautiful work overall.

Yeah, the forelock was the first thing I painted. If I wasn't so lazy, I'd redo it xD But it does look a bit... eh. Thank you for the critique, Alais, I'll be sure to remember it <3

This is really pretty! I love how you did the mane. For the forelock what you could do is have it falling over the horse's face some. Even though its windblown, still kinda weighed down, ya know?
