So...I actually meant to post these back in December when I made these, but then I switched from using my main computer to using a laptop and lost the link to this site....yeah. Anyways, I made one as a bit of a test to see what I could do with my new Photoshop CS3 program, and I made the second not long after as a Christmas present for some of my friends......I'd really like some critiques on this, so that I can know what to do in the feature to make them look better xD

I'm a soldier;; Well, the first thing I noticed was the bright colours, and from the song you used for quotes, bright, heavily saturated colours really don't seem to suit. Also, the horse has a fiant glowing ring around it. To fix these, simply desaturate the colours and when using overlays and layer modes, don't merge the layer untill the very end. The text s very prominent, which could be very good, if using a small amount of text, but for this amount of text in that font, maybe adding a layer mode or editing the opacity would have helped alot. Apart from that, it is a very good image with great cutting and smuding of the horse. The compostion is great and the horse matches the background nicely. Good job.

Wings;; I like the mane and tail, nice job! Try adding a bit more of the flying snow, since the horse is moving pretty fast, there should be more snow surrounding it's hooves then that, but what you do have looks very nice. Well, for the wings... they're at the top of the withers, but if you look at pictures of birds such as: (these are just for reference) www.dkimages.com/discover/previews/975/95006543.JPG www.dkimages.com/discover/previews/892/75006907.JPG and www.dkimages.com/discover/previews/924/5006816.JPG the wings connect at the shoulder joint. When making fantasy images we look at examples of those phenomenons happening in real life, such as the birds, to get a realistic looking ending. So try moving your wing down to match up with the shoulder joint on the horse. The wing's colour is a bit off too, try going to hue/sautration, putting the saturation up and the lightness down. If it still doesn't quite match up, go to brightness/contrast and play around with that a bit. When looking at the bird pictures, the wings seem very, very large in proportion to the birds, just like your wings are, so good job on that! Don't be discouraged, though, wings are very very tough things to manipulate, and all you need is practice to get perfect at it! ;D

Thanks for the feedback guys =]
I never noticed the ring around the horse on I'm A Soldier. That's probably because i'm half-blind, lol. Anyways...that was the first picture like that I ever tried, so now I know how to work with layers a little more, and that shouldn't happen again...hopefully.
For Wings, I was aware that the wings were off not long after I finished it. But it was almost Christmas, so I wanted it done for my friends and I was busy with other Christmas stuff. I was happy with the overall image, but the wing placement does still bother me. As for the coloration...I had spent an hour messing with the colors to get them to where they are on the picture now and it just wouldn't turn out right. I deiced that was good enough, but it definately could use some with ^_^
I wish I could make these changes, but the files are on my old computer and I am afraid that I can't get to them anymore, so I'll just have to keep these things in mind for future pictues. Thanks so much for the help! It's nice to have someone pointing out what is wrong with your work, especially when you are less likely to see it yourself.
